Genelabs has a long-standing research strategy of targeting infectious diseases with significant unmet medical needs and strong commercial potential. Our drug discovery research efforts are currently focused on the discovery of novel, small-molecules with potent activity against the hepatitis C virus Genelabs’ expertise with antiviral research has allowed us to quickly participate in the race to discover new treatments for chronic HCV infection, which is a serious worldwide medical problem with limited treatment options. According to publicly available estimates from Decision Resources, Inc., the global market for HCV exceeded $3 billion in 2003 and is projected to grow to over $10 billion by 2010.
